Hall of Fame Profile"
"Wallace D. Nard was inducted into the FTA Hall of Fame in 1988. Like
most of the members of the Hall of Fame, he has put a great deal of energy
and time into the advancement of his own career, and the advancement of the
flexographic industry as a whole. He has been a fixture at FTA meetings for
decades, a tireless advocate of flexography and always willing to share his
knowledge and experience with others in the industry.
Nard has spent more than 40 years in the flexographic industry, having spent
time with Anderson & Vreeland, Bobst Group, Padane & Schiavi America,
Reilly Lake Shore Graphics, Porter & Dugas Inc. and Molded Rubber Printing
Plate Corp. Presently, he is the owner and president of Novaflex Inc. in Carol
Stream, Ill.
He has spoken at various international symposiums on flexography. In 1981
he spoke at the international Symposium on Flexography in Milan, Italy. He
also spoke at the first Italian FTA meeting in Milan in 1985. Nard was presented
a Distiguished Service Award at the annual FTA Forum in St. Louis in 1985.
Nard's affiliation with the FTA began in 1962, when he recieved a citation
for his participation at regional flexo workshops. In 1965, he chaired his
first workshop, held in Chicago.
Since that time, Nard has spoken at and chaired several workshops, seminars
and roundtables each and every year. He served as National Workshop Chairman
in 1978 and 1979. Nard was elected to the FTA Board of Directors in 1979 and
again in 1982. He served as secretary, treasurer and chairman of the Planning
Committee and as a member of the Compensation Committee during his two terms
as a board member.
Nard's work with the FTA goes beyond meetings and seminars. He served as
a contributing editor to the FFTA's flexography textbook, Flexography: Principles
and Practices. The publication has served as a standard text for flexographers
since its release almost four decades ago. It is now in its Fifth Edition.
He served as chairman of the FFTA Forum in 1983, in Bal Harbor, Fla. In addition,
he served as Supplier Vice President during his last three years on the Board
and was instramental in planning the two Color Conferences held in Atlanta
n 1977 and 1983., he also served on selection committee to determine where
the first six-color flexo press donated to the FFTA by Luigi Carraro of Carint
Inc. would be located. The press was eventually located at Fox Valey Technical
College in Appleton, Wis. and has been serving as a valuable education tool
there for over a decade.
A holder of several patents related to the graphics industry, Nard is also
recognized as an educator having been one of the charter teachers at the Fox
Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wis. He has written numerous articles
for various trade show journals, including FLEXO Megazine. Nard and his wife
and family make their home in Wheaton, Ill., a suburb of Chicago and have
lived in the area for more than 40 years.
Wally Nard is typical of all members of the Hall of Fame. They are blessed
with a high level of energy and a willingness to pass their knowledge to those
who desire it."
